   Ever since my local fish store upgraded their aquarium setup, I have been interested in fish tanks with built-in partitioned filters. I just find that the setup looks so much cleaner overall as opposed to your typical hang on back filter. This aquarium set from Hello Reef is an absolutely fantastic setup. Whether you are an experienced hobbyist looking to expand, or a new fish keeper looking for your first tank, this tank is an excellent choice.Beginning with the tank itself, I have to say that it is absolutely stunning. The 15 gallon size makes it very versatile, meaning that it will fit in just about anywhere. Moreover, the tank’s cubed shape just looks so clean. The tank is well-made, the glass is crystal clear, and each of the seams are very cleanly sealed. The partitioned filter chamber does take up around three gallons or so according to the manufacturer, but I don’t mind sacrificing a few gallons in exchange for a cleaner look. While the set is tailored towards glofish, that does not mean that you have to use it to exclusively house glofish. You can use it to house any tropical fish you would like. I myself have a variety.The partitioned filter chamber is without question my favorite feature this aquarium setup has to offer. Each component and piece of equipment responsible for filtering the water fits neatly into this area, keeping everything concealed at all times. The filter setup utilizes a variety of different media to efficiently and effectively keep the water clean. I also really dig the two piece hood design. The hood is separated into two pieces, one for the main tank, and one for the filter chamber. This makes it very easy to access each area.In addition to the 15 gallon fish tank, the amount of accessories included in this set is absolutely mind-boggling. You are really getting a lot for your money here. Included along with the tank is a water pump, water heater, filter media, and light. This is likely around $100 in additional accessories alone. Not to mention, you will also receive a copious variety of decorations, consisting of plants, sand, and two beautiful pieces of spider wood, essential additives like tetra quick start and glofish water conditioners, and, finally, a variety of glofish food. In total, if I had to guess, I would value all these wonderful additions at $200-$250. These inclusions alone make this set worth the price in my opinion.Setup of the tank is very straightforward. I had it up and running in under three hours, and most of that time consisted of filling the tank. I would highly recommend downloading and signing up for the manufacturer’s Hello Reef Connect companion app. Here, you will find all sorts of in depth video tutorials and instructions, and this made set up a breeze. I was very impressed with the overall quality of the lessons.Set up is as follows. Begin by assembling the filter. This process consists of adding the various different types of filter media to their respective chambers. First, install the pre-filter. The pre-filter sleeve sits inside the left most compartment of the filter chamber. Next, install the large sponge filter into the bottom of the center chamber, and place the bag of ceramic filter media on top of the sponge.At this point, adhere the water heater to the back glass of the tank inside the center filter chamber. Next, set the pump to the maximum flow, attach the series of included hoses, and adhere the pump to the bottom glass inside the right most filter chamber. There is a round cutout in the top right-hand corner of the filter partition, and it is here where the nozzle attaches to the supply line feeding from the pump. The two components simply screw together. Once assembled, this area will serve as the water outlet, or in other words, the place where clean filtered water comes from. Again, I really like that each of these components are neatly concealed within their own respective compartments. It is really, really neat, and I cannot understate how clean the aquarium appears as a result.Next, line the bottom of the aquarium with the included sand, choose and place decorations, and slowly fill the tank with water through the rear filter chamber. This allows the tank to fill slowly, so as not to disturb any of the decorations. Once filled, add safe start, install the hood components, and finally, install the light, which just sits atop the hood. Assembly is a breeze, and as stated earlier, I had my tank up in running in under three hours.As soon as I fired my tank up for the first time, I was absolutely elated. It is absolutely gorgeous. The tank and the included variety of decorations pair perfectly with one another. Not to mention, the partitioned filter chamber provides a clean backdrop that just looks great. I much prefer this look over some tacky looking, taped on background scene.To set up the light, you will download an app called Mobius. The light is designed to really make the tank, fish, as well as the decorations pop, and pop they will thanks to the UV functions. The light itself looks fantastic, and it really takes the tank over the top. I will say however that I have had mixed results with the Mobius app, as it can be finicky at times. The tank manufacturer is not to blame here. My advice would be to choose from one of the preset lighting templates. I chose the natural template, as I am housing a variety of tropical fish, not just glofish. From there, set your daily schedule, and you will be good to go.In conclusion, I could not be any more thrilled to own this fish tank. The tank itself is absolutely beautiful, and the partitioned filter chamber should be the way going forward with all fish tanks in my opinion. I have not one negative thing to say as it pertains to this setup. When paired with all the included bells and whistles, be prepared, because you are in for quite the vibrant display of beauty with this fish tank. This tank is a true standout, and has made for a wonderful addition to my fish room. Dare I say, it is without question my new favorite aquarium, and by miles the most stunning. This set makes for a simply incredible value, and it is for this reason that I would highly recommend this fish tank, as well as the brand Hello Reef. Trust me when I say, you will not be disappointed with this setup.

   Reviewing HelloReef 15 Gallon Complete Freshwater Aquarium Kit, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect with this kit but I know someone who has HelloReef’s saltwater aquarium reef and they were very happy with it so I decided to give this freshwater version a shot. I keep reef tanks and it’s been years since I’ve ran a freshwater tank. I felt getting an all-in-one kit like this HelloReef kit would suit me well for getting back into freshwater.The tank is nice and looks nice. The glass is crystal clear and the back being black really makes the fish stand out. The driftwood is nice, but the plants are typical, cheap, plastic stuff you find at any big box pet store but they glow under the light, which looks cool at night. The nice thing is this tank is well-suit to real plants but if you are using the pebbles/sand that came with the tank, you’ll need to add aquatic plant food to it for it to sustain real plants. If you want to use the fake plants that are included with the kit, they give you plenty to fill out the tank, around the driftwood.You also get a nice heater that is appropriately sized for the tank and a filter and pump, in addition to water cycler and water conditioner. There’s a $10 off coupon for glofish and once you have your tank cycled and the fish are in, there are two different food choices that come in the kit. The videos do a good job of explaining how to go about setting up the tank and getting through the cycle process. They also give good tips for maintaining the aquarium. If you decided glofish aren’t for you, this aquarium can house a variety of different type of fish, as long as they stay small, and you don’ t overstock. It’s a great kit for someone who is serious about wanting to commit to an aquarium and they want to do it properly from the get-go. It’s a great beginner tank but it’s also great the experienced keeper who wants the simplicity of an all-in-kit that looks professional and not like the typical, off-the-shelf plastic mess you find in big box stores.
