I got this as a backup for another pump, and while the other pump is still going strong I decided to unpack and test this one. As advertised it is very quiet; it is also powerful. Delivering water from the large of the 2 hose adapters that came with it, the pump can pump out 1 gallon of water yo a head of about 12″ in about 10 seconds. A slider on the bottom regulates the water flow; it got stuck in the middle the first time I adjusted it, but I took a chance and forced it, and it works better, although a bit stiffly, not that you will be changing it often. This is for a larger (20 gallons+) aquarium or outdoor use; a 35 watt pump is going to put a bit of heat into the water and unless you are trying to warm things up it could be an issue. It will work in very shallow water, but don’t let it run dry. Overall it’s a nice pump; time will tell if it is as durable as the Little Giant pumps I am used to.

Thank goodness for the automatic shut off on this unit. I have a fountain in my back yard that had a more expensive pump without this feature go out earlier this year. I’ve tested the new one and it works like a charm and is going to be perfect as soon as the weather permits me to dig the previous pump out and replace it. My zen fountain will soon be zen! Before, I was constantly worried it was running or had burned up because it got low on water which it did. This little pump is going to be one of the highlights of the summer!

I got this pump specifically for performing water changed in my 75 gal tank. It’s important to note that this does not come with a hose. Performance wise, this has vastly improved my water changing process and I appreciate that this isn’t too high pressure as it doesn’t stir up the substrate in my tank too much. You can’t go wrong with how cheap it is.
