Works great to detect changes in ammonia levels. However, it can be deceiving as it read my levels as normal yet my fish were staying close to the bottom of the aquarium. While having only the tank light on, it read normal, but once I switched on the room light to get a better look, I could see the color was actually in the alert stage and was able to reduce the levels with a 50% water change. Well worth the money and saves you the hassle of testing the water with the test kit.
