I have been impressed with the Hygger products I own. I have 2 pumps that work great, and a light for my sump that has also been good. This item is made well and does about the same job as other similar scrapers I have had by other brands. The plastic blade will only be effective on some types of algae, but it is better that not having one. I have no problem with the magnet being too strong as others have stated. I can transition from front to side glass with no issues. I will say the previous scraper I owned had a better handle. It had one you could wrap your fingers around which was nice. With this one you will need to use your fingertips. At $29.99 it may be a little expensive, but as I said I do believe Hygger products are well made and should last.

The warnings about the strong magnets are serious, so don’t let your fingers get in-between them. I mistakenly let them come together and it took a lot of effort to get them apart, especially since the pads are Velcro. It does make cleaning my 33-gallon tank much easier, removing algae without much effort. I had a good amount of buildup to test and it did a phenomenal job. The inner pad scrubs well without scratching, and the outer pad keeps the outside of the glass looking nice. The steady movement on the outside created a back and forth movement due to friction and the magnets trying to reposition, so it basically did extra scrubbing work on the inside buildup. I like that it floats if when it detaches, so I don’t have to go fishing for it. The removable blades are a nice bonus for tougher spots, and the different options for glass and acrylic tanks are a smart touch. A solid tool for keeping an aquarium looking clear with minimal hassle.

The modular design of this algae scrubber for use in both acrylic and glass tanks is convenient! I have both types of tanks and not having to use two separate magnetic algae scrubbers is so nice! I can just pop on the appropriate blade and go to town cleaning. I like that the blade isn’t permanently attached because sometimes that doesn’t work well for the shape or style of tanks. It worked very well for cleaning right up to the top edge! You can see in my picture where I show a before and after. This was my “dirtiest” tank and it’s not all that bad so it was a bit hard to capture a clear before and after. I did not clean the algae for a couple of weeks so I could show how well this works. The magnet is the strongest I’ve used on a product of this type and is a BIG improvement over the older one I had from about 20 years ago.I will warn that the magnet is very strong and while that’s great for thorough cleaning, it would be difficult for someone with strength or joint problems.
