You do not need a lot of force to open the lid. However, it won’t pop open even if you shake the container.

I don’t know why these are sold as for aquariums outside of that the might not be food safe.These are a more solid plastic than I expected. It is brittle — and a hard drop will crack it. The lid is secure and stays closed even when shaken. The openings are good for getting contents out.I don’t expect the lid will last for years since it is hinged plastic, but for the price it’s hard to beat. This isn’t recyclable plastic if that is important.
