Ordered a piece for a 75 gallon aquarium to attach some Java fern to, when it arrived I couldn’t believe my eyes, the piece was 27 inches long, absolutely huge, but couldn’t be happier with it. Only down side was it was so big it was extremely difficult to boil to clean and remove tannins before it was placed in the aquarium.

It you buy this, be aware you will need to do a lot of prep work before it’s ready for your tank. I read most reviews and was ready to boil and soak the wood for a few days. A few days turned Into 2 weeks. I boiled the wood every hour when there was daylight, and switched out the water on the hour- which was always dark dark brown. During the night time I let is soak in fresh water. The water was dark come morning time. I did this for 48 hours. Needless to say I was tired of boiling wood by the end of the 2 days. So I just decided to soak it until I hit the two week point- and changing the water in the morning. Every morning the water was pretty dark until the week mark. Then from 1 week to two weeks it was just tea colored. At the two week mark I decided to boil it and the water was so dark and brown. I decided that I would probably return it since the water was never clear like the other reviewers mentioned. I decided I would place the woods in my fish tanks and if it turned the water tea colored I would return it since I like clear water in my fish tanks. I put the two smaller wood pieces in my 29 gallon tank, and the biggest piece in my 20 gallon tank. And I was totally surprised but my tanks are super clear, even after 3 days of being in there. Maybe my awesome filters are taking care of it? Who knows. But my fish love them, especially my bristlenose plecos. They are beautiful( albeit small) pieces of drift wood. Maybe I could have put the wood on the fish tank sooner? Or maybe I boiled it and soaked it just long enough? What I did worked for me, but if you don’t want to spend that amount of time getting it ready, I would just go to a specialty aquarium store and get something they have. For the price, these are great. But I took one star off for having to spend so much time getting these ready.

I bought these for my 15 gallon tank, and they look great. The ONLY important note worth mentioning is the tanic acid. If you do not follow proper procedures before placing into your tank, the wood WILL turn your water orange, and water visibility will be lost. This does NOT damage the fish in any way, and is actually healthy for them. It just isn’t pretty for humans to look at. The wood arrives lightweight and bone dry. They float in the water because of this. But again: if you follow the proper procedures beforehand, you can easily resolve this issue. Very durable wood, lasted years before it began to rot. Easy to add to the tank.

These are some nice chunks of wood and are probably great for their intended purpose. I purchased them to display some flies that I tied, however, the wood was so hard I couldn’t get the hooks to poke into them. It’s not any fault of the product, I was expecting softer wood like drift wood but that’s not the case. I ended up putting them on a window sill for decoration, minus the flies. Still good wood for a terrarium I would suspect.
