This is an easy to read & setup basic aquarium thermometer, just drop the tip into the water & you’re good to go!

I bought this digital thermometer for my new aquarium after reading online that the external stick on type can be affected by the ambient room temperature. That is the only kind I’d ever used before and they seemed to work OK? But this time, I thought I’d try the digital with the probe that goes down into the water and I think it’s much better. I really like being able to see a digital display of the water temperature. I believe it is very accurate too, because it’s always within one degree at most of the temperature display on the tank heater. I feel much more confident that the water is the temperature it should be. Also, I do recommend spending a little bit extra for the two pack because you can use the second thermometer to test the temperature of new water before adding it to the tank during water changes and top offs. One comment, I wish the cell battery was easier to get out. After using the extra thermometer to test new water I take the battery out of it until I need to use it again. Each time I have to use some sort of little tool like a metal nail file to help me pop the battery out. But that’s a tiny little thing and I do highly recommend this thermometer.

As others have said, don’t get this if you need to see temp readings at night because there’s no backlight. Otherwise these are fantastic for the price. Other reviews are critical of the accuracy, and you will see those reviews repeated on every single aquarium thermometer listing on this website. If you need to use a thermometer that is accurate down to the exact degree, then you need to spend good money on a scientific one that requires calibration. I don’t know why people expect perfection from products at this price point. For most use cases, being 1-2 degrees off is not a big deal. All I need from this product is to monitor wild swings in temperature for example if my heater breaks or I don’t realize the water level has dropped to not fully cover the heater anymore. I also realized it is useful to have a temperature reading from the exact opposite side of the tank furthest from the heater, to test if the heater is heating the entire tank properly. I already had a black thermometer sticker on the tank, but I realized I was never looking at it because it’s so subtle, which defeats the purpose of having it there. I was very grateful to have this digital thermometer when I noticed it said the tank had dropped to 71 from 77; I realized I hadn’t topped off the water enough for the heater to do its job, and I actually decided to move the heater down into the tank more for this reason. If I’d only had the sticker to go by, I probably wouldn’t have noticed for days or worse until the next top off time.
